giving and getting
February 9, 2008
I recently had another birthday. I’m an Aquarius, is that in any way surprising? I used to love birthday celebrations-always loved making a huge fanfare about them. I still do love birthdays since it’s a time to reflect on the past year, but I celebrate them in a very different way. One thing I make sure to do is one nice thing for myself. After recently taking up snowboarding again after four years of hibernating, I decided to treat myself on the day of my actual birthday to a nice 1.5 hour massage at a local Thai massage spa, Pho Siam. This place is great, affordable, and clean. once you can get past a pint-size Asian woman crawling on your back that kinda feels like a big monkey, it can be quite relaxing.
Of course no birthday is a birthday without gifts. I was pleasantly spoiled on my birthday with so many great things that it’s going to take a couple weeks for me to unveil my highlights. Personally, I love gifting and coming up with unique and special things for others, not to mention finding great bargains to share with friends and family. A no fail gift of course is a thoughtful gift card to a store or restaurant that you know is a favorite. Or an invitation for a home cooked meal. This would fall under the best gift category ever- homemade and from the heart. This is great for those super picky friends you might have or that person who has everything. I wonder who that could be?
Remembering someone’s birthday or a special occasion is always the biggest challenge. One more reason to love the internet. There are several websites that one can log onto and enter all those not-to-be-forgotten-dates. I used to keep a little birthday book with everyone’s names written in it. i guess birthday books got forgotten as quickly as rolodexes and dayrunners. The thought of remembering is the best gift of all.
